These typically provide a large amount of new gameplay content, revolving around a central theme. Expansion Packs primarily provide new game systems to add on to our existing selections. For example, Sims 4 Get to Work lets us control Sims at work, while the Sims 3 Pets gives the ability to have Cats, Dogs, and Horses. Many players expect this to eventually occur with The Sims 4 - but it's not guaranteed. Same with Weather, ala Sims 2 or 3 Seasons.

Newest expansion: City Living

Expansions provide a large amount of new gameplay content, revolving around a central theme. Expansion Packs primarily provide new game systems to add on to our existing selections. For example:

  • Sims 4 Get to Work lets us control Sims at work, while this was not possible in the base game.
  • Sims 4 Get Together allows us to create and visit clubs, while this was not possible in the base game.

In general, new types of Buy Mode objects, Skills and Careers are to be expected. Many will give us new traits and Aspirations, as well as clothing and hair styles to help us customize our Sims. New neighborhoods give us new places for our Sims to reside and explore. Not all Expansions are created equal and what excites one player may be lackluster to another. Many players have been looking forward to more expansions, especially since not a lot of expansions have been added in comparison to Sims 1, 2 and 3. There has been a lot of focus on game packs and stuff packs and this has alerted many simmers.

Expansions are known to consume a lot of memory and require high performance of the user's computer. Therefore, a lot of complaints arose on how slow the expansions ran on regular or old computers. Sometimes there were even reports of crashes and bugs that were impossible to solve. Electronic Arts showed little to no response against these claims making users doubt the company's involvement in the game. The community simply has come to the conclusion that in order to play all the Expansions, it was required to buy an expensive computer that could perform better.

While Sims 3 still has some recurring crashes and unexpected bugs, Sims 4 has been receiving a lot of compliments on how well it runs on regular computers with little to no freezing, crashing or bugging. With the current expansions installed, the game still runs as smooth and fast as it would with only the base game installed. This is very important, because from the start The Sims 4's producers announced that Sims 4 will be a very big game with a lot of room for future expansions. It would have been a shame if the game would already show signs of freezing with it's first expansion.
